Hawaii is often judged by the photos which the majority of us are familiar with; however a brief history of Hawaii will shortly show you that there's a lot more to this group of islands than meets the eye.

In 1791 the large island of Hawaii was united under one king. It was the most radical change in the history of Hawaii so far. Kahala went on to unite the full of the Hawaiian islands by 1810.
On the death of Kahala his son took over and he removed the practice of Taboos that made way for the new religious beliefs that were being presented by the Christian missionaries.
The missionaries had started to arrive almost immediately after Captain Cook had arrived on the Hawaiian islands and had opened them up to the Europeans & the Americans.
The missionaries brought not just a new religious conviction, and also a western treatments & concepts. Over time the culture of Hawaii was modified and in 1840 the monarchy further lost control when Hawaii ceased to be a total monarchy and administration branches were formed.
Once there was a government in place the financial system became increasingly more dependent on Western merchants and the rational step was to become a territory of the USA. This was achieved in 1898, but, full statehood was not accomplished until 1959.
It only takes a brief history of Hawaii to under stand why their traditions have become so critical. This little group of islands got very close to losing their individuality, that now they hold on and celebrate their individuality.
